I was born in what you might call the dark ages. Not that they were for all, just for you humans. My kind favor the darkness, the night. We are of the night. The moon is for us what the sun is for your kind. We are the darkness. You see us and feel fear, just as you fear the dark. Whether that darkness is within or without makes no difference.
Then there is our appearance. We don’t exactly look like you, with our pale hides and pointed ears. Not to mention the fangs. They don’t show all the time, but has that ever made a difference to your kind? Of course not. The fact that they are there is all it takes. So you hunt us. Most of us are peaceful, but you don’t care. You never have. The few malicious ones are all it takes to make you fear us. And you hate what you fear. We can hide our fangs and our ears. And we can claim that we work the nights to explain our pallid complexions.
But our eyes. Those will always give us away, once you are close enough to see them. The colors are brilliant. So much so that they almost glow. And not the normal colors of you mortal creatures either. Mostly various shades of yellow, from amber to gold and even true yellow. Purples of every shade and tone. The part that bothers most of you is the fact that our pupils are vertical slits. I guess they remind you of reptiles or something.
So you hate us and fear us. That is why my birth was such an exception. I am of both human and non-human decent. Why my mother fell in love with the darkling that is my sire, I can not say. She didn’t survive long. Your kind murdered her because of it. Though you may have allowed her to live if I had not been born. So I was taken by my sire and raised in the darkness. He is one of the peaceful ones. But peaceful doesn’t mean naïve. Far from it. He knows that there are those that would hunt us all down simply because we are not human. So he taught me to fight. My half-blood breeding allows me to do things that others of my kind can not. I can walk in the light. And I could probably blend in with the social outcasts, the Gothic types, that exist on the fringes of your society. But I don’t. I have no reason to do so. And a very good reason not to.
I am a hunter. Not my own kind, unless ordered to do so. I hunt those who hunt us. Those who take money to slay those of my kind who cannot defend themselves. For there are those among my kind who are helpless, whether by birth or accident. So I hunt the hunters, to protect my kind from the extinction that would follow if individuals like myself do not hunt.
There is no thanks for doing what I do. Nor is thanks needed. None of us advertises the fact that we hunt. We are shunned as anachronisms when others discover what we are. And we are seen as a danger to our own kind. Hunting the hunters has a tendency to draw more hunters to us. Most often, they are after revenge. Some few come after us in a misguided, and suicidal, attempt to make a name for themselves. As if being famous to humans would make them better at what they do. As if it would protect them from our attacks. It won’t do either. It only spawns anger in our own hunters, that those fools would believe they could harm us. They can if there are enough of them, but the fools almost never work in large groups.
The ones who hunted us have been dead for over 10,000 years. We are still alive. I am still alive. And now those who once hated and feared us for no reason other than our differences have reason to hate and fear. For now we hunt them. For nourishment and sometimes for sport, though it is poor sport. But the hunters are returning. Some are like myself. Half-breeds. But rather than hunt those that hunt my kind as I once did, they hunt us. And they are good at it, though there are few of them. For most are raised as I was, by their non-human parent. But for those of us who have lived for so long, the hunters are not much of a threat.

She heard him give his reasons... She was in the mood in which she really didn't care but found herself forcing herself to calm down. If she didn't she might do something she regretted or pass out. She felt Red Hare snarl out at the Mesmer though directed at Innocence was sent at him as well. She watched as James charged, she figured Rhys would dodge but it seems he was to busy dealing with her. Her anger was lost when he didn't and ended up yelling at her to leave. James then smirked feeling cocky. He hadn't expected to draw blood to be so easy. Innocence felt a different anger boiling up, granted she was upset at Rhys she didn't want him to get hurt. She tried to lead Red Hare to Rhys but then thought against it... She would be more of a problem... She gripped at Red Hare's mane in worry... This better go quickly.
"First blood goes to you. But it will be the last blood you draw." Overloaded with cockiness he brought his sword up and went to attack again but was shocked to get a counter attack. His motion to attack again kept his head from being lopped off but his sword was thrown out of his grasp, his shirtfront cut along with some flesh. He was then thrown a few dozen yards from the sudden impact, right at Red Hare's feet. Red Hare glared down at the stunned man. He knew he had hurt Rhys, which upset Innocence... That upset him in turn. Reared up calmly and he stomped on the man a few times before galloping off. He made sure to be careful about how he ran, not wanting to cause to much pain for his friend.
James cried out with each stomp. He then sat up and looked around for his sword. His hair was messed up, his shirt ripped and his chest bleeding. He panted at the beating he had gotten from his impact throw. He found his sword and staggered to a stand. His ego had fallen slightly but at the sight of Rhys arm and his lack of fighting expertise felt he had the battle won, he had surprised Rhys enough to give him a bad wound that would allow him to win. Innocence didn't actually leave; Red Hare for some reason wouldn't do so. She tried to tell him to go back but he would go a few steps and then head back to the fight against her words.
She technically wanted to stay too but she had just caused a big dilemma. She swore and looked at Red Hare from her place on his back. She told Red Hare to stay, if he didn't want to leave the least thing she could do is to keep him away. James saw Innocence leave on her horse and felt he needed to finish this. Going closer slowly he circled slowly and then charged again, hoping luck would work in his favor again. Innocence noticed Red Hare had package sticking out of his saddle. Pulling at it she smiled slightly, it had a letter and it had some first aid.
She took the strange stop off not caring if anyone saw. She took some of the herbs, put it on the stab wound and wince. She then took the bandages and wrapped it around her chest like a strapless shirt. She patted Red Hare. "You don't want to leave because you want to stay and help right?" She heard him snort and rear gently. She sighed and winced. She then turned him around. "Alright we're going to help but this is going to be a different help then you’re used to alright?" The horse kicked his feet as he jumped in response. He was happy to help in general and he was happy Innocence wasn't upset anymore. He had done his job despite being what many called a runt of the herd and troublesome.
James was surprised to say the least to see Innocence come back, this caused him to stop his charge. He was more surprised to see that his outfit was half gone. He frowned, what was she doing back? Innocence took shirt, rode by James and smacked him with the top. She then stopped by Rhys. She showed the small package minus the note to him. "Sorry... Red Hare alerted me to something I've overlooked. Seeing I don't want it ruined during battle I'll hold onto it..." If he didn't know it was medicine and bandages but her sudden refreshed personality and new 'shirt' then he was clueless.
She then rode by and dropped the shirt on James head. She stood at the end of the field. Red Hare glared demonically at James daring him to come close enough for him to be stomped and gnawed to death. James simply just shivered and attempted to charge again. This was simply craziness to him but he was willing to give it a try again seeing he had caused damage using this attack and maybe he could finish the battle using this attack. Innocence whispered something to Red Hare. They then both watched as James blindly charmed at Rhys again.

Rhys watched as James went flying, his life saved only by a failed attack of his own. But he hadn't escaped unscathed. Rhys had drawn blood with his own attack on the Hunter. He had been disarmed and landed at the feet of Innocence's horse, which proceeded to stomp on him a few times before moving off. While this was happening, and after when James got his sword back, Rhys jammed his blade into the ground and changed his grip to one more suitable to single handed use. The balance of the blade made it possible in spite of its size and weight and it didn't hurt that Rhys was stronger than he looked, even for a half-blood, as a result of his training.
He pulled his sword free of the dirt and watched while James began to charge once more. When the lunatic stopped his charge, Rhys looked over and saw Innocence returning wrapped in bandages and obviously medicated. He shot her a glare and swore, wondering what part of leave she hadn't understood. When she showed him the package, he knew why she had returned and where the bandages and drug had come from. While he was grateful for the thought, he did wish she had stayed away until the fight was over. But James' reaction to Red Hare's glare reassured him that she was no longer a target.
The world swam in front of his eyes and he shook his head to bring things back into focus, realizing that James' first attack had done more damage than he had thought. He still couldn't move his arm and, worse yet, the bleeding hadn't slowed. The left side of his shirt was saturated with blood, as was the left leg of his pants down to the knee. He got back into his odd fighting stance and watched as James began another reckless charge. Then he slashed at the him, seeming to aim for the throat again, but brought his blade around and down to gut him as he twisted away from the charge.
Rhys avoided the attack easily enough but fell to one knee, dizzy from the blood loss. He staggered back up to his feet, the tip of his blade dragging on the ground, panting heavily as he looked over at James. The world swam out of focus again and he stumbled forward. He planted his sword in the dirt once more, this time using it to keep on his feet. He didn't know what kind of damage he had done--if any at all--but he hoped it was enough to bring an end to the fight.

James felt the attack, it surprised him, and while it wasn't as strong as it could have been for his size it still caught him off guard. He felt the sword cut into his shoulder and down his chest. He blocked for part of it but found himself once again being propelled into the air. Panting at the gash he looked around for his sword and spotted it. Using his free hand he held his wound. Hissing out in pain he forced himself to stand. Reaching out for his weapon once more.
His head swam but he saw Rhys was in worse condition and he felt the dizziness turn into a high, his adrenaline ran. He dragged his numbing body over to Rhys. He was going to give the last blow, if he was on his knees that meant he must be losing. It meant he just needed to take his head off and try once again at the blond haired woman. He grinned and stalked towards Rhys.
Innocence watched the fight. It seemed Rhys wasn't going to be getting off as easy as everyone thought. She watched passively and only when Rhys fell to his knees after sending James flying did she relax a little. When James got up and had a demented grin on his face that made her tense right back up. Red Hare snorted and started to walk in place with unease. Innocence felt herself scan the battle ground for what she had thrown away earlier... When she spotted it she kicked Red Hare twice in the side. Red Hare feeling the familiar command darted forward.
Innocence slide off the saddle by the weapon and let Red Hare cut James off. James not having to battle Red Hare and Rhys at the same time slashed and tried to cut the horse. Blind with ego and excited with the thought of winning, Innocence watched as Red Hare dodged each sloppy strike and ran over. Right as he was about to hit him in the whither she blocked it with her bladed fan. She then twisted and kicked out at this bleeding chest. "Back off my horse!" James feeling the agonizing pain intensify with the kick, hissed.
He felt his dizziness come back. Without Innocence on his back Red Hare dashed over to James and started to trample him. Backing off he returned to Innocence, both waiting to see if he would try to get up. The stupid man decided to try again, while he couldn't run anymore he waked briskly to attack her. Red Hare turning around kicked him square on with a angry whinny. Innocence taking the package from Red Hare's saddle looked at James who tried to get up once again.
Granted he was running on pure revenge and adrenaline. Innocence whistled and Red Hare charged at him again, kicking him down and stomping all over his body. Innocence took this time to go over to Rhys. "I protect Sarah only to have the other end get cut down? Psh some hunter you are..." She said with a playful tone. She got on her knees and organized everything. Making sure to keep an ear and eye open for James who was getting beaten u by her mount. She pulled the bandages out and laid out the herbs she needed to mix together.
She had learned a few things from Whisper, Walter, and Enigma. Red Hare kicking James down hard enough to make him loose his sword came up with an idea. As James laid there trying to get up he ran over the sword and dashed away, leaving the wounded man behind. Innocence saw him run by with the small sword in his mouth. She grinned and continued her work. She didn't hear James get up this time. She looked at Rhys with a worried look. With everything ready she saw Red Hare come back, standing guard as Innocence went to get ready to work on Rhys.
James felt the pain turn to numbness, he couldn’t see anymore. His word was black. He could tell he was still alive but it was a numb existence… Damn that stupid horse. He felt his mind slip he wasn’t going to win. He should have known better then to just expect the crazy horse and his master to let him finish the white haired hunter off. He almost welcomed the feeling of death; he would haunt this place that was sure. He didn’t get this revenge… For that he was pissed, otherwise this was a blessing in disguise.

Rhys watched as the lunatic got up and came toward him. He tried to pull his sword free of the ground in order to take the fight to James, only to discover that he hadn't the strength to draw it out. He barely had the strength to stand and only then if he used his sword as a staff. While he did have a reserve blade, he couldn't use it. He would have to let go of his sword in order to do so, and if he did he knew he'd fall. He would chance it if he had to though it would likely end badly. Fighting with a knife against a sword was never a good idea to begin with and it would be worse if he was down when it happened. Even as the thought crossed his mind Rhys, still bleeding heavily, felt his knees buckle sending him to the ground once more.
He struggled to rise and failed, finding the task too great to accomplish in his weakened state. He released his hold on the hilt of his sword and, using his hand to balance himself, turned to lean against the flat of his blade. Even that small effort left him far more tired than he liked, but he drew his knife and waited for James to get to him. He would fight, even if he couldn't stand. He would fight until he drew his last breath if that was what it took to keep Sarah safe. But James never reached him, having been cut off and attacked by Red Hare. Rhys watched the fight for a moment and then saw Innocence get down on her knees beside him. He leaned his head back and closed his eyes as she spoke and readied her herbs.
A slight smile touched his lips at her joke and his voice was weak and weary as he answered her. "You did good, kid. You did real good." His breathing became fast and shallow and he grimaced as a sudden sharp pain lanced through his shoulder. He was tired, so very tired, and the earth on which he rested was quickly turning to red mud as his blood continued to flow freely from the wound. "Take care of Sarah for me. Please." When Rhys spoke, his softly pleading voice was a mere whisper in the night. Then he passed out, no longer having strength enough even to hold to consciousness.

James wasn't quite dead yet. He however couldn't move. He didn't want to, he knew if he so much as budged that damn horse would finish the job. So he laid there in the mud, hoping he would die soon, the feeling of nothingness was a bit depressing. He noticed the horse back down and go closer to Innocence while still keeping an eye on him. Red Hare looked over at Rhys quickly before making sure to keep an eye on James.
"You did good, kid. You did real good." Innocence let a hint of a smile grace her lips but refused to loose her focus, "Take care of Sarah for me. Please." She rolled her eyes. "Stupid man, I cannot take care of Sarah..." She knew he was passed out but softly bopped him on the head and gave a sad smile. "She doesn't want to be taken care of by me, she wants you... I swear if you die I'll find your spirit and put it though hell..." Ripping the shirt covering the wound she took a quick look.
It was deep and for a surprise attack very deadly. Grabbing a handful of mashed Herbs she placed it in the deep gash. She then with the sowing needle and thread sowed the wound up. It would scar most likely but at least he would live if he had the will to do so. She sighed and started to put the bandage on, with his wound carefully and neatly bandaged she nicked towards Red Hare. The horse hearing his cue went to Innocence. "Get down..." Red Hare laying down on the ground like he had done for Sarah looked over his shoulder.
Innocence carefully rolled Rhys onto her horses back and then grabbed her make shift reins from around his neck. Wrapping it in her fist she with difficulty placed his sword on Red Hare also. Red Hare accepting the weight stood to his full height and with a light tug followed Innocence. Innocence went over to James and spotting his sword left Red Hare and grabbed it. Grabbing James by the collar she dragged him by the rock she had used as a chair. Stabbing the sword into his gut she made a mock pray and grabbed Red Hare's reins again.
"Your not worthy of this much... However I figure you deserve something for your stubborn beliefs..." Slowly walking out of the area the woman guard and the timid guard came out to see the wounded leaving and their leader dead. After a moment they too left, not needing to stay here under the rule of someone who was clearly not going to give them orders. Innocence knowing that Sarah and Walter with that other horse were ahead put an extra step in her walk. Still avoiding Red Hare's trigger to make him gallop.
Red Hare knew better however, he wouldn't gallop away with the wounded man on his back. Rhys had saved his friend and the newer female friend so he would be kind. Innocence keeping an eye on Rhys sighed. If he did die it technically would be her fault, she should have hid her face better so Sarah wasn't capture, made it so she could suffer alone... Sarah however would say different she knew, as would everyone else she was sure. "You seriously better live or you'll end up killing more loved ones then you know you have..." With a turn of her head she started to focus on waling instead of worrying.

Being taken away on horseback from the fight had been fine at first, but after a while her imagination started to kick in. She could see the battle all too clearly there in her mind, that crazy hunter continuing with his ramblings just to draw out some sort of reaction from Rhys, to cause him to slip up and create an openning. Rhys was a very skilled hunter, but she had seen how surpressed thoughts and emotions could bring him down without warning. What if this lunatic man said something to hurt him and took advantage of that to actually cause physical harm? Though they were clearly out of sight of the whole fight, she glanced over her shoulder worriedly, fidgeting where she sat while trying not to upset herself from her seat. She was still adjusting to the additional height of the horse, and taking a fall from where she was didn't appeal to her.
But she couldn't shake her fear that something bad would happen. Part of her knew that she should keep her faith in Rhys that he would come out safely and soundly and keep his head throuhgout the ordeal, but her mind was much too clever for its own good. Only the bad thoughts and scenarios seemed to play out in her mind, and it shook her confidence in her fiance. Though she knew continuing on to Tiamorre would be the safest route, she wasn't sure she could stand it there in a house she wasn't comfortable in just waiting for the fight to be over. Pacing would do her no good, and who knew how long it would be before they would return. "Please, wait," she called to the man leading the horse, not even sure she had caught his name during the beginning of the fight that she had witnessed. "I need to wait. I can't... Please," she said, sending another anxious glance over her shoulder to look for Innocence and Rhys but with no luck. Turning a pleading eye on the dark haired man, she hoped he would give in to her request and wait until the fight was over.

Walter heard her pleads for him to slow down and to stop... He really couldn't but eased the horse to a slower pace. "I cannot stop however I will slow down. If you want to know they are fine... The big man is injured but will survive." Rhys has empathy, Innocence could see the future, Mercy could impose his feelings on others, and he... Well he was strange he could see the present, like Innocence only without the future part, he could also feel strong emotions. It seemed the battle was done and they were following not to far behind... If he slowed the horse down enough they would catch up.
He suddenly heard a whinny. Stopping he saw the three of them coming. Turning Archer around he went to meet them. He wasn't happy with the wound Innocence had and knew Enigma wouldn't be either... The wound on Rhys was bad but was wrapped well enough, he indeed would survive but they needed to get him to a place to rest, horseback riding was the last thing he needed. Innocence looked at Sarah and with a sad glance sighed. "Sorry, I didn't mean for him to get that hurt, don't worry about it Walter speaks the truth. We really need to get going."
Walter turned Archer back around and Red Hare stayed in place with him, walking the same pace. Innocence and Walter shared a glance before concentrating on going to back to the castle where it would be safe for Rhys to get better and them to avoid getting in anymore trouble. Both started to add speed as to get their quicker, Walter now not needing to wait anymore made sure to go faster then he had been going before, Red Hare and Innocence following the same pace.

Slowing down hadn't been what she wanted, but at the moment, since Walter was controlling the speed of the animal and she knew nothing of how to change it from where she was seated, Sarah had to settle for it. She didn't like the fact they were moving and still gaining a little ground over Innocence and Rhys, and since she had no real way of knowing when they had finished the fight she could only guess how far back they were still. Walter's statemnt of both of them being safe brought relief and another wave of worry. Rhys was injured? Even if it wasn't a lethal wound, the thought of him in pain only made her all the more anxious for them to stop and wait for the pair to catch up. Again, she quickly turned her head to look behind them, but she hadn't expected to actually see them.
She felt the horse stop beneath her and begin to head back in the direction they had been coming from, all while Innocence led her horse towards them as well. Sarah felt relieved to know the fight had been finished, but it didn't last long. Why wasn't Rhys sitting up the saddle? Why wasn't he walking easily like Innocence? What exactly had happened to him? If she hadn't been so frightened by the extra height of the animal she was riding, she might have considered sliding off and racing ahead to see him, but instead she waited painstakingly on the creature's back while Walter brought them to him.
She needed to remind herself the wound Rhys had suffered wasn't life threatening as they came to a stop next to rhys and Innocence, disliking the fact he was on the horse's back unconscious. The wound hadn't been severe, but exactly how bad had it been to cause him to lose consciousness? Her eyes flickered up and over to Innocence, half noticing the wound she had suffered as well, while her eyes blurred slightly with tears. This whole fight hadn't been fair to either of them. They were both injured and bleeding, and yet she had come away unscathed. "I'm sorry," she managed to say, somehow keeping herself composed. As the horses were turned around again and started back on the road towards Tiamorre, she continually would glance across at Rhys, a few tears squeezing through to fall silently down her face.
